Noida International Airport at Jewar starts commercial flights from 15 June 2026
Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar began commercial flight operations on Monday, 15 June 2026, when an IndiGo flight from Lucknow became the first scheduled commercial aircraft to land there. The airport, the National Capital Region's second major passenger airport, had been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28 March 2026 and then completed operational readiness trials before opening to passengers.
What happened
IndiGo is the launch carrier. Its first arrival came from Lucknow, and the first departure that morning carried about 170 farmers from the Jewar area whose families gave land for the project, led by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, to Lucknow. Forbes India reported that IndiGo plans to link Jewar with more than 16 cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jammu, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Amritsar and Dehradun.
Akasa Air was scheduled to start the following day with daily flights to Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai. Air India Express, earlier expected among the launch airlines, has postponed its planned start at Jewar indefinitely as part of a cost-cutting exercise, Forbes India reported. Operations are domestic for now, with international flights expected later.
Key numbers
- Phase 1 capacity: 1.2 crore (12 million) passengers a year, with one runway and one terminal, according to the airport operator.
- Long-term masterplan: more than 7 crore passengers a year over the concession.
- Operator: Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under a 40-year concession from 1 October 2021.
- Phase 1 cost: about ₹11,200 crore, Forbes India reported.
- Airport code: DXN.
Getting there: connectivity still coming
For now, access is by road only. The operator lists airport taxis, app-based cabs and bus services to Delhi NCR and other north Indian cities. Metro and rail links to the airport are planned but not yet running.
A key road link still under construction is the 31-km Faridabad–Jewar greenfield expressway being built by NHAI. India TV reported in March 2026 that the ₹2,414 crore, six-lane project is targeted for completion by April 2027, with some sections possibly opening earlier; once complete, it is expected to cut the Faridabad–Jewar trip to about 15–20 minutes.
What it means for residents and buyers along the Yamuna Expressway
For people already living in Greater Noida, the YEIDA sectors and towns along the Yamuna Expressway, the immediate change is a nearby domestic airport. Employers in logistics, cargo and aviation services linked to the airport may also add local jobs over time, though the scale will depend on how fast traffic grows.
Forbes India noted that land and property prices in parts of the region have already risen on investor interest, and that ground transport remains limited until rail links open. Buyers should judge a property on today's road access, civic services and project approvals rather than on announced infrastructure alone.
- Verify YEIDA allotment and approval status for any plot or project.
- Check the actual drive time to the airport and to your workplace.
- Treat metro and rail timelines as tentative until services start.
Those exploring the area can browse plots for sale in Greater Noida or rental homes in Greater Noida, and owners can list a property in Noida for free on RealtyMandi.
