PM Modi inaugurates Noida International Airport Phase 1 at Jewar in March 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase I of Noida International Airport at Jewar, in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, on 28 March 2026. He also laid the foundation stone for a 40-acre Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the site. The airport is the second international airport for Delhi NCR, planned to work alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Phase I by the numbers
According to the Prime Minister’s Office release issued through PIB, Phase I was developed at an investment of around ₹11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model. Key figures from the release:
- Initial passenger capacity of 12 million passengers per annum, scalable to 70 million on full development.
- A 3,900-metre runway able to handle wide-body aircraft, with an Instrument Landing System for all-weather, round-the-clock operations.
- A multi-modal cargo hub designed for over 2.5 lakh tonnes a year, expandable to around 18 lakh tonnes.
- A dedicated 40-acre MRO facility and a stated aim of net-zero emissions operations.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu attended the ceremony, All India Radio reported.
What the Prime Minister said
Speaking at Jewar, Mr Modi said the airport would benefit several districts of western Uttar Pradesh, naming Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Etawah and Faridabad, and would open opportunities for farmers, small industries and young people in the region. He said better connectivity would help agricultural produce from western UP reach global markets.
Connectivity and the flights that followed
PIB describes the airport as located along the Yamuna Expressway and planned as a multi-modal transport hub integrating road, rail, metro and regional transit. The inauguration was followed by the start of scheduled commercial flights on 15 June 2026, with IndiGo operating the first services; domestic routes came first, with international operations planned later.
What it means for Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway buyers
An operating airport changes the practical calculation for people who live or work in the region. Shorter travel time to a major airport matters for frequent flyers, for businesses setting up offices and warehouses, and for workers employed at the airport, its cargo terminal and the MRO facility. For households weighing Noida, Greater Noida or the Yamuna Expressway belt, airport access is now one more factor to set against commute, price and amenities.
That said, an airport does not settle every question about a location. Buyers should check:
- Whether a project or plot is approved by the relevant authority (Noida, Greater Noida or YEIDA) and registered with UP RERA.
- The actual status of promised road and metro links rather than planned ones.
- Day-to-day access to schools, hospitals and markets, and noise exposure near flight paths.
